Promoting Girls Hockey
Girls Hockey Rocks!
The Chicago Stars organization has offered girls that usually play on boys, coed or competing travel teams during the regular season an opportunity to play on an all-girls Spring tournament team. The main event has been the Brampton Canadettes International Women’s Hockey Tournament in Brampton, Ontario usually held on Easter weekend (this year it will be the weekend before). This is the largest female hockey tournament in the world. 2011 will be the tournament’s 44th year. Typically between 400 and 450 girls teams participate. In addition, our girls also play in tournaments, both before and after the Brampton tournament, in the Chicago area and surrounding states.
Development and Fun
Skilled girls from all over the Chicago metropolitan area participate. Girls from almost 40 different hockey organizations participated in spring 2009. Practice locations are intentionally varied. In addition to their experienced volunteer coaches, the girls are very fortunate to have had some of the best professionals as guest instructors, including Kristi Alcorn, Rafe Aybar, Randy Jordan, Martin Mally, Ralph Menotti, John Meo, Bob Scott, Alfie Turcotte, Sylvain Turcotte and Trent Yawney. Off-ice training facilities, like the Hockey Zone, have also been utilized.
On behalf of girls hockey, MANY THANKS to our coaches, instructors and volunteers
